JAKARTA: National coal consumption has only reached 12.77 million tons during January-May or 12.69% of the total outputs in same period at 100.61 million due to delay on the 10,000 MW projects.The national coal output until May has reached 100.61 million tons, around 87.84 million tons for export and the remaining 12.77 million tons for domestic consumption, Director General of Mineral and Coal at Energy and Mineral Resources Ministry Thamrin Sihite.Mays output reached 100.61 million tons while domestic consumption 12.77 million tons and export 87.84 million tons, he said yesterday.The output rate in the first five months of 2011 was still 29.16% from EIAs national coal output projection at 345 million tons or 30.8% from governments target of 326.65 million tons.Export percentageMeanwhile, 87.31% of export percentage is higher than the estimation given by the worlds analysts. They estimated Indonesias coal export this year is around 80% of the total output.On the other hand, the level of coal consumption that still reached 12.77 million tons is synonymous with 15.96% of this years domestic coal demand outlook, which is previously estimated at 79.97 million tons or continues the 20% - 25% consumption trend of the total output per annum.The domestic consumption outlook is a recapitulation of national coal consumption figures accounted by the government.PT Perusahaan Listrik Negara (Persero) is mentioned as the largest national coal consumer with estimated consumption around 55.82 million tons until the end of the year in accordance to the Energy and Mineral Resources Ministry Regulation No 2360 K/30/MEM/2010 or soared significantly compared to the 2010 consumption at 34.5 million tons.Based on the same regulation, independent power producer (IPP) will consume 8.97 million tons and cement plant 8.86 million tons.However, PLNs data shows that the company coal consumption rate in same period has just reached 10.5 million tons or 18.81% of domestic market obligation quota. Meanwhile, IPPs absorption rate has actually reached 5.4 million tons or 60.2% from the determined domestic market obligation quota.The PLNs Primary Energy Director Nur Pamudji has not able to provide feedback related to the companys absorption rate. PLN will provide feedback next week after completing the January-June data."However, Bisnis source who familiar with such matters said the company suffers shortage in coal absorption due to delays of entry schedule for some 10,000 MW power plants into the system.Those power plants are PLTU Suralaya, Rembang, Paiton, Indramayu, Tj.
