JAKARTA: Contribution of Cigarette Tax for the first half of 2011 had been booked to penetrate IDR31.3 trillion level or 50% of total target in this year amounting to IDR62.7 trillion.Director General of Customs and Excise at Finance Ministry Agung Kuswandono informed that the tax was contributed from various cigarette producers in Indonesia. We are optimistic until the end of this year the cigarette tax can be in line with the target, he said, yesterday.On the other hand, there is no plan on higher cigarette tax so far in order to achieve the target.Previously, Directorate General of Customs and Excise announced the contribution of cigarette tax until May amounting to IDR28.9 trillion or 46.09% of the target.PT Gudang Garam Tbk became the largest contributor until the end of May, followed by PT Sampoerna Tbk and PT Djarum Kudus, said by Director of Customs Bachtiar.Today, the government is still reviewing various possibilities to enhance cigarette tax by next year considering on several indicators.The indicators are economic growth, fiscal risk, to a fatwa declaring smoking is forbidden. We review all indicators to enhance the cigarette tax by next year.(t01/msw)
