Astra Agro boosts 28.3% crude palm oil production

JAKARTA: Plantation firm PT Astra Agro Lestari Tbk, a subsidiary of giant automotive company PT Astra International Tbk, book 28.3% increase in crude palm oil production in a period of January-May 2011.In its investor bulletin published today, the company reported that crude palm oil production reached 485,889 tons compared to the same period last year at 378,674 tons. The increase was mainly derived by the rise in fresh fruit bunch production of 22.5% to 1.79 million tons.As a result, fresh fruit bunch yield during this period improved by 18%, from 6.9 tons per hectare in the same period last year to 8.14 tons per hectare. During the last five months of 2011, Sumatera area contributed the highest of the total fresh fruit bunch production or 41.4%, while Kalimantan and Sulawesi were 38.6% and 20% respectively.Oil World reported that Indonesias crude palm oil production is estimated to reach 24 million tons this year. Supported by the additional mature area of 350,000 hectare, Indonesias CPO production in the end of 2011 is estimated to reach 23.90 million tons, an increase of 7.7% compared to the previous year. This figure represents 49.8% of the World total crude palm oil production.In 2011, Indonesias palm oil mature area is approximately 6.09 million hectare, an increase of 6.1% from 5.74 million hectare in 2010.The AALI-coded stock slipped IDR100 or 0.44% to IDR22,700 at the Jakarta Stock Exchange as of 11.44 a.m. local time.
