JAKARTA: Hypermarket business is predicted to grow by 10%-13% in 2011, higher than the forecast this year at 8%. Satria Hamid Ahmadi, Deputy Head of Standing Committee at Chamber of Commerce Indonesia, confirmed that retail sector in Indonesia has good prospect and growth, as indicated from the increasing number of stores following the augment in daily need consumption. "Retailers will continue to add more stores [hypermarket] considering local economic aspects, population, location, accessibility, infrastructure, distribution channel of human resources, small and medium business partnership, and local government regulations," said Satria, who also serves as Senior Public Affairs Manajer PT Carrefour Indonesia. In the meantime, Rudy Sumampouw, General Secretary of Indonesian Retailers Association (Aprindo), explained that hypermarket business next year will be influenced by new comers in collaboration with existing players. However, the acquisition will make not much difference since it is merely a switch of ownership. New acquisitions will take effect if the new owners change marketing concept. (T04/NOM)
