JAKARTA: The Indonesian unit of Unilever NV, the worlds second-largest consumer-goods company, reported today a 16.94% increase in second quarter net income on higher sales.PT Unilever Indonesia Tbks net income for the period ended June 30 gained to IDR2.07 trillion (US$243.86 million), or IDR271 a share, from IDR1.77 trillion, or IDR232 a share, a year earlier. Sales revenue climbed 15.54% to IDR11.46 trillion.The companys operating income rose 16.52% to IDR2.75 trillion.The cash and cash equivalents climbed six times to IDR1.88 trillion as of June 30, 2011 from IDR317.76 billion at the end of 2010.Fourteen analysts had a consensus revenue estimate of IDR22.37 trillion for this year, whilst fifteen analysts estimated that the companys net income would reach IDR3.83 trillion.Jakarta-based Unilever, which sells products including Sunsilk shampoos and Walls ice cream, is benefiting as Southeast Asias biggest economy grows. Bank Indonesia is estimated that the economic growth will reach 6.3%-6.8% from its initial projection at 6.1%-6.6% as higher investment and export.Unilever shares declined 0.33% or IDR50 to IDR14,950 in Jakarta trading as of 11.50 a.m.. The shares have dropped 7% this year on the Jakarta Composite Index. (msw)
