JAKARTA: Daihatsu expects to sell more than 130,000 units through the end of this year or about 4% higher that the initial target of 125,000 units.PT Astra Daihatsu Motor has sold 62,422 cars in the first half of 2011, President Director Sudirman Maman Rusdi said.Sales normally would be higher in the second half. We are optimistic to meet the target of selling 125,000 units. It could even reach 130,000 units, Rusdi told reporters on the sidelines of Daihatsus dealers meeting in Jakarta.The company gathered distributors and dealers from all over Indonesia to review its sales performance.End-year holidays which will start with a week-long Muslim Eid Fitr holiday in September followed by Christmas and New Year holiday will spur car sales of the second half as people will travel home for the holidays, said Suparno Djasmin, Executive Officer of PT Astra International Tbk-Daihatsu Sales Operation (AI-DSO).Indonesia International Motor Show, the country's biggest automotive exhibition, would also help automotive manufacturers to show case their latest vehicles and to attract buyers. Some of the latest vehicles which are likely to attract high interest in the IIMS is Dihatsu's New Sirion.Daihatsu is gearing up its promotion and marketing programs to boost sales including a marketing program called Dahsiat. Under the program, Daihatsu will give away prizes for customers who buy Daihatsu's cars between June-October 2011.Daihatsu has increased production capacity in its Sunter plant in northern Jakarta to 330,000 units per year this year, from 303,000 units in 2010 to tap growing automotive demand.(t01/msw)
