JAKARTA: PT Bank Negara Indonesia Tbk will finance the purchase of national-flagged ships amounted to IDR1 trillion in this second half for four national shipping companies.The bank began seriously financing shipbuilding after the enactment of national-flag vessels regulation this year, Head of Medium-Size Business Division Dinno Indiano told Bisnis.In financing shipping companies, the company previously channeled it through the third party cooperation, disbursing credit to multi companies who are then hand it to shipping debtors.Nonetheless, such scheme is ineffective and lead to high interest so that BNI, for now on, will directly disburse it.In the first half, shipping financing portfolio recorded at IDR3 trillion, IDR300 billion bigger than last year.Shipping sector contribution to BNIs credit portfolio is only 3%. We wanted to increase it to 4%-5% this year.In IQ/2011, BNI booked IDR1.25 trillion net profit or 22% higher than IDR1.026 trillion on the same period last year.Disbursed credit recorded at IDR138.65 trillion or 16.6% higher than IDR118.86 trillion. Small and medium enterprises dominated the segment by 38%, followed by corporate 37%, consumer 18%, international 4% and sharia 3%.Company performanceFor corporate segment, disbursed credit significantly increased to IDR10.38 trillion from IDR8.04 trillion on the previous period. The company is scheduled to release its performance in the first half today. The company is projected to book significantly increase profit, said one source.BNI is the fourth biggest bank by asset in Indonesia where 40% of its shares are managed by public.
