JAKARTA: PT Permata Tene has allocated IDR1.2 trillion-IDR1.5 trillion investment to establish a white-crystal sugar plant with a capacity to 115,200 tons per year.Later, the new plant is expected to decline a supply deficit of white-crystal sugar by 3.84% of total deficit amounting to 3 million tons per year, as confirmed by Permata Tene President Director Andre Vincent Wenas.The new plant needs 17,00 hectare land for sugar cane plantation in an unproductive areas in Probolinggo and Lumajang Utara, East Java.The production of new plant is expected to 8,000 tons cane per day [TCD] with yiled assumption by 8%-9%, he told Bisnis.Meanwhile, the feasibility study has been completed and the ground breaking will be realized in May 2012. The plant construction is estimated to spend within of 2 years.In addition, the company will import raw sugar in the first 4 years including 75,000 tons imported raw sugar in the first year and will benefit 25% supply from sugar cane farmers, while waiting to a great harvest period of sugar cane.In the second year, the companys need will be supported by 50,000 tons imported raw sugar and its sugar cane plantation by50% of total need. In the third year, total import will be less to 25,000 tons and 75% of total needs will be contributed from farmers. At the end, the total raw sugar needs can be supplied from its own plantation, he explained.Permata Tene is a joint venture of PT Makassar Tene and PT Permata Dunia Sukses Utama.Previously, the construction plan of sugar cane-based sugar plant is on talks further with carious related parties, said Regent of Probolinggo Hasan Aminuddin.Expectedly, the sugar plant (PG) of Permata Tene will not disturb a sugar cane supply in other sugar plants in Wonolangan, Pajarakan, and Gending, Hasan said.
