JAKARTA: Two important posts at Bank Indonesia are vacant, after Deputy Governor Budi Rochadi passed away and the incumbent central bank chief Darmin Nasution left his previous post as Senior Deputy Governor in June 2010.Budi Rochadi was buried yesterday at the San Diego Hill cemetery in Kerawang, outside Jakarta. Late Budi Rochadi died Monday morning during his official visit to New York, US.After arriving at late Budi's family home in Pancoran, South Jakarta at 9.30 a.m. yesterday, his deceased was brought to Bank Indonesia's headquarters where mourners gave their last respect. Those attending the funeral included Vice President Boediono, Darmin Nasution, Bank Indonesia deputy governors, and members of Audit Board Taufiqurrahman Ruki and Ali Masykur Musa.Amongst the mourners were Bank Rakyat Indonesia President Director Sofyan Basir, Vice President of Bank Mandiri Riswinandi and other bank executives.Budi Rochadis term as deputy governor would end in December this year. After Budi's passing, there are now remaining five deputy governors in Bank Indonesia, namely Hartadi A. Sarwono, Ardhayadi Mitroatmodjo, Muliaman D. Hadad, Budi Mulya, and Halim Alamsyah.Darmin Nasution said he has not appointed candidates to replace the deceased; neither has he selected any officer to handle Budi's portfolio, which cover the affairs on payment system and assessment of rural banks. The central bank will not appoint an acting officer but the governor will soon decide who will fill the position, said Deputy Governor Muliaman Hadad. No acting officer, no interim, six of us are sufficient, he affirmed. In the meantime, Vice Chairman of Houses Finance and Banking Commission Harry Azhar Azis suggested the central bank governor to propose candidates to fill Budi's post and the senior deputy governnor post. The appointment for the posts is urgently needed to manage the tasks and recover the performance of the central bank as the monetary authority.Harry expected that candidate names would be proposed to President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono within a month and would later get approval from the parliament. It could not be interim. It needs total dedication to fill the position, Harry told Bisnis yesterday.Harry added that more detailed regulation on the replacement of deputy governors is needed, similar to that on the Audit Board.Since 2008, Bank Indonesia's Board of Governor have not worked in a full team, due to many reasons. When Boediono was appointed as governor, the senior deputy governor post that he left was vacant. After Boediono resigned in May 2009, Darmin filled his post and the senior deputy governor post is again vacant. When Deputy Governor Sity Fadjrijah fell ill in 2009, her duty was handled by other senior colleagues. Halim Alamsyah then replaced Fadrijah on June 1, 2010.Aviliani, an economist at Indef, said that a deputy governor post should be filled by a banker so that the central bank regulations and policies would meet market expectation.
