JAKARTA: PT Pelindo II, State-owned shipping operator, is optimistic to obtain a special right on determining price for a project bid of Kalibaru Utara Port Terminal.Moreover, the operator revealed to accept an official letter concerning on the special treatment regulation on Monday, June 13, 2011 from Transportation Minister.We, Pelindo II, acted as an initiator of Kalibaru Utara project will accept an official letter on privilege right from Transportation Minister. On Monday [today], the letter will be addressed for us, President Director of PT Pelindo II Richard Jose Lino told Bisnis in Jakarta, on Sunday.The privilege right includes a right for higher bid namely preference of 10% as well as a right for determining the projects price which had been set by bidders.By pocketing the privilege right, other potential bidders will step back from the project as Pelindo will absolutely win the project. On the other word, Pelindo is eligible to take the project, even though high cost is offered by other bidders, he said.Previously, a request letter for the privilege right had been submitted to Transportation Ministry since January 2011. Thus, Pelindo has taken a seat to be a bidder of Kalibaru Utara project with IDR11.7 trillion investment.Oh the other hand, Director General of Sea Transportation at Transportation Ministry Sunaryo confirmed that there is no decision to provide the privilege right on the project for Pelindo because it hasnt submitted yet its request letter.In the meantime, Transportation Ministry will hold a prequalification tender for the Kalibaru Utara Project on June 15, 2011. In addition, the tender opportunity will be open for all investors including foreign investors that should engage local investors having a port entity certificate.Initially, the project would be mandated for Pelindo II to be managed. However, Directorate General of Sea Transportation decided to bid the project as it should be in accordance with regulations.Laskar PelangiPT Pelindo II for Branch Port of Tanjung Pandan, Belitung, allocated IDR4.5 billion by this year to improve port facilities including a construction of Passanger Terminal of Laskar Pelangi that will be announced officially on Saturday.The investment continues to be realized, even though the management of Tanjung Pandan Port which is under control of PT Pelindo II, still get loss by IDR1.7 billion.The facilities realization is expected to support for economic development in Belitung District, as Lino stated.Nevertheless, the loss continues to be lower since several last years as experienced by Baai Island Port in Bengkulu.
