JCI rises 8.76 points to 3,842.95 at closing session

JAKARTA: A bounce back in trade and services as well as financial companies erased early losses in the Indonesian stock market today.The signal which came from European Central Bank President Jean-Claude Trichet that he may support encouraging investors to buy new Greek bonds created positive sentiment. Euro Stoxx 50 Index gained 0.68% to 2,784.17 and FTSE 100 Index increased 0.41% to 5,886.75 this afternoon.Jakarta Composite Index (JCI) rose 0.23% or 8.76 points to 3,842.95 at the closing session. The JCI was moving in the range of 3,815.55-3,843.21. About one share advanced for every one share that fell and almost a half of the shares traded in JCI this morning were unchanged.The volume of transaction reached 7.05 billion shares and worth IDR3.93 trillion. The JCIs market capitalization was amounting to IDR3,439 trillion.The increase in JCI was led by PT United Tractors Tbk which contributed 1.76 points to the index, PT Bayan Resources Tbk 1.57 points, PT Bank Mandiri Tbk 1.36 points and PT Bumi Resources Minerals Tbk 1.20 points.Shares that hampered the movement of JCI were PT Bank Central Asia Tbk with -2.87 points, PT Telekomunikasi Indonesia Tbk -2.37 points, PT Bank Mega Tbk -1.39 points and PT Bumi Resources Tbk -1.22 points.Increasing in JCI was not supported by foreign investors who booked net sell of IDR376.33 billion today.Bisnis-27 Index advanced 0.11% or 0.36 point to 331.02. The stock benchmark covering 27 stocks and launched by business daily newspaper dubbed Bisnis Indonesia moved within range 328.19-331.06.Meanwhile, the regional markets were mixed. Nikkei-225 inched-up 0.67% to 9,442.95, Hang Seng declined 0.35% to 22,868.67, Shanghai SE gained 0.60% to 2,744.30, Kospi slipped 0.65% to 2,099.71 and Straits Times slightly decreased 0.05% to 3,112.82.The MSCI Asia Pacific Index gained 0.39% to 898.11.The rupiah traded stable against the US dollar at IDR8,513.
