JAKARTA: Plenary Session of the Parliament finally passed the Draft of Bill on Currency to be Bill upon the approval from all the factions.Chairman of the Working Committee Currency Bill Achsanul Qosasih explained that there were a number of agreements generated during the discussion.First, the government along with Bank Indonesia signed rupiah bank note, which will be imposed, issued and circulated starting August 17, 2014."With the government's signature on the bank note, then the rupiah can be a symbol of legal tender in payment of the national economy so as to provide legal certainty," he explained in a plenary session of the House, yesterday.Second, as he continued, planning and determination of the amount of money will be printed by the Bank in coordination with the government. Third, the extermination of rupiah has to be done by BI in coordination with the government.Fourth, the printing of rupiah has to be held by the government and possibly done in collaboration with other institutions if it is not able to be done. The collaboration must be done through the transparent, accountable and profitable appointment.Fifth, eradication of counterfeit will be conducted by the related agency. Sixth, Supreme Audit Board is responsible for the implementation of periodic audits of printing, releasing, and destruction of rupiah.Seventh, every financial transaction in the territory of Indonesia is carried out by using Rupiah. Eighth, redenomination shall be governed by different laws.Finance Minister Agus D. W. Martowardojo explained that the formation of Currency Bill is the mandate of Constitution of 1945.It contains of regulation on the types and prices of currency, Rupiah management, use and exchange of rupiah, the eradication of counterfeit, and criminal provisions of counterfeit in Indonesia."When you are in the border areas, such as area of Batam, Bintan, Nunukan, and Atambua, all kind of transactions should be done in rupiah. So do not forget the Currency Bill which requires you to deal with rupiah," said Agus.(t03)
