BANDUNG: Batavia Airlines has targeted a load factor of 60% for the newly opened route that link Bandung, West Java and Singapore.Operational Director of PT Metro Batavia Herman Santoso said the targeted load factor lever was based on a desire to have a break event point (BEP) within one year after the first flight out."Based on the assumption, with the targeted load factor in the first year we will be able to reach BEP," he said on the sidelines of the new flight route launching yesterday.In the early stage of the route operation, the company will use Boeing 737-300 on a three flights a week schedule. It will later use Airbus 320.The Husein Sastranegara airport in Bandung has different characteristics because it is surrounded by hills."The airport has small parking space for aircraft and still need to address an unorganized flight scheduling problem, he explained. The opening of Singapore-Bandung route followed Batavia's other direct flights to the city state, which are Singapore-Jakarta, Singapore- Semarang, and Singapore-Pontianak.In addition, Batavia will also serves international routes with destinations, such as Guangzhou China, Kuching Malaysia, Riyadh and Jeddah, Saudi Arabia.Head of Transportation Agency of West Java Province Dicky Saromi said that the number of passengers in Husein Sastranegara Airport earlier this year rose by 50% since the operation of direct flights to various destinations."We are now working on plans to increase the airport capacity to be more feasible," he explained.(t03/msw)
