JAKARTA: Ephindo Energy Private Ltd and Consortium of Deep Industries Limited-Monnet Ispat & Energy Limited won the bid on coal methane gas work areas with a total definite investment of US$20.34 million.Such definite investment for a three-year exploration comprising US$1.1 million for geology and geophysics studies, US$9.55 million for core hole drilling in 14 wells, and US$8.68 million for drilling 11 exploration wells, Energy and Mineral Resources Ministrys Oil and Gas Director General Evita Herawati Legowo said.Furthermore, the first phase pilot projects are 11 dewatering activities and 11 production tests worth US$1 million.The government will receive signature bonus around US$3.26 million directly from the bid winner, he said, yesterday.Ephindo Energy won coal bed methane (CBM) work area of Melak Mendung I while the Deep Industries Limited-Monnet Ispat Consortium won work area of Melak Mendung III. The signing of the CBM blocks agreement contract is scheduled to take place on July 25, 2011.The government has offered seven blocks at regular bidding held on January 10, 2011, until May 9, 2011. Those blocks are Kampar I, Kampar II, Palalawan I, Palalawan II, Melak Mendung I, Melak Mendung II and Melak Mendung III.Out of 18 bidding documents that have been purchased by investor, 4 companies were interested with Melak Mendung I, Melak Mendung II and Melak Mendung III. However, only 2 investors won the bidding while the investor who interested in Melak Mendung II fails to meet the administration requirement.Remote areaEphindo Energys CEO Sammy Hamzah confirmed that Ephindo has secured Melak Mendung I block, which is located in a remote area near the border between East Kalimantan and Central Kalimantan. We won the block without partnering with other company.According to him, Melak Mendung I needs large investment compared to other CBM blocks since its located in a remote area.We are investing US$1.2-US$1.5 million for each drilling in other blocks while Melak Mendung I needs US$2.5 US$3 million, Sammy added.
