JAKARTA: PT Toyota Astra Motor, the sole distributor agent of Toyota brand in Indonesia, recorded a retail sale performance of 153,385 units in the first half of 2011 or grew by 11% compared to the year earlier.Such accomplishment reflects a solid growth of automotive sector despite Japans quake and tsunami, series of problems in Motor Vehicle Tax as well as fuel price problem.The highest growth in the first semester was contributed by commercial vehicle with 2 ton capacity, Toyota Dyna. It grew by 34% with retail sale of 7,455 units.For passenger cars unit, the sale of compact car and multi-purpose vehicle (MPV) grew by 15% and 13% respectively.In compact car segment, Yaris contributed a retail sale performance of 8,777 units while MPV Avanza booked 85,144 sale volume in the first six months this year.Besides displaying a solid growth in economic and industrial fronts, the developed automotive sector proves that amidst tight competitiveness and Japans quake, it still becomes consumers main option, said TAM President Director Johnny Darmawan yesterday.In the meantime, Toyota sold 26,216 units last month or grew by 27% compared to the earlier month at 19,554 units. Last months growth was attributed by Kijang Innova whose sales perfomance soared by 97%.Last month, Innova was successfully sold at 3,928 units while Avanza followed with 15,140 units sold. (T02/NOM)
