JAKARTA: PT Pertamina asked Indonesian government to settle the payment of 8 billion conversion package of kerosene into liquid petroleum gas (LPG), which was distributed by the company in 2008, totaling IDR2 trillion.Commercial and Marketing Director of Pertamina Djaelani Sutomo said the state-controlled company has distributed the 8 billion conversion package to public in 2008, but it was not yet paid by the government.It happened as the payment was postponed and the total cost for this package is IDR2 trillion. It is expected that the payment will be settled soon, he said, last weekend.In 2008, the initial distribution totaled 15.08 million packages, with LPG volume of 547,000 tons.According to him, conversion cost in 2008 reached IDR3.6 trillion. Of the total conversion cost, the government has paid IDR1.6 trillion.The rest of IDR2 trillion that has not yet been paid by the government is still reviewed by Supreme Audit Agency of Indonesia [BPK]. Directorate General of Oil and Natural Gas will be audited, but we will be involved in the audit, he said.He explained the points which will be audited by the Audit Board from the number of distributed LPG cylinders to gas regulator. Meanwhile, the number of recalled kerosene until May 2011 was IDR48 trillion.To support the program, Pertamina has distributed 51.34 million initial packages since 2007 to May 31, 2011, with a total of recalled kerosene as much as 18.56 million kiloliter.Thus, the total efficiency in the same period was IDR48 trillion, with a total conversion cost of IDR12.3 trillion.Djaelani explained the public interest in using LPG as a substitute fuel of kerosene was relatively small in the beginning. However, Pertamina will expand the coverage of LPG conversion program to several areas including Maluku, Kupang and Papua in 2012.The low realization of 3kg LPG package in the beginning was happened as the refusal from several areas, especially remote areas.
