Indonesia may replace China as textil producers

TANGERANG: Indonesia has a potential to replace Chinas role as a main textile and textile producer in the world, after the country concentrates in high-tech industry.Chairman of Indonesian Textile Association Ade Sudrajat said that China starts to lose its competency in textile and textile product industry as high economic growth of the country within the last 10 years.During the last 10 years, China was a main producer of textile and textile product in the world, however in the last 2 years the country starts to the neglect labor intensive sector since it focus to grow as a developed country, he said during the opening of garment plant of PT Jaba Garmindo in Cikupa, Tangerang, last week.According to Ade, Indonesia has an opportunity to take over Chinas position since it has sufficient resources, especially large number of work force.National textile and textile product is bouncing back. Early this year, investment realization has reached to IDR2.4 trillion. We predicted that the investment value will increase until the end of this year.He said the textile and textile product has been experienced a hard time after the removal of quota regime thus it has obtained a stigma as non-prospective industry from banking sector.Stigma sunset industry is rubbish. In fact, the industry is able to rise again and gives big contribution to the national economy, he said.An investment worth IDR2.4 trillion in textile industry, as Ade said, includes a development of new plants, business expansion and refinement of textile machines,The investation is pretty bullish since the export domestic demand keeps increase.
