Adaro ready to supply coal South Borneo power plant

JAKARTA: PT Adaro Indonesia, one of major coal mining companies in the country, shows its willingness to participate once more in the bidding of coal supplier for steam power plant (PLTU) in South Borneo, following its efforts to increase investment in electricity.The coal company has prepared proposal project worth US$350 million for the power plant that needs 1.2 million to 1.5 million ton of coal annually.We are still interested in the bidding of 2x100 MW in South Borneo if its reopened. We have prepared the proposal once more, said President Director PT Adaro Indonesia Garibaldi Thohir.The pre-qualification of the tender by PLN, the national electricity company, will take place on May 18, 2011.The company is trying to increase investment in electricity sector to make synergy of its businesses, giving added value to the state and the shareholders.We are also building a power plant with capacity of 2x30 MW there [South Borneo] and we expect that it will start producing by December this year. Moreover, we get involved PLTU in Central Java with capacity 2x1,000 MW.Meanwhile, the company will partner with Mitsui Co Ltd from Japan in handling the power plant in South Borneo.Adaro will use the method of mouth mine generator to meet the required electricity for the internal use and contractor around the mining field, said Corporate Secretary Adaro Andre J. Mamuaya.The production of electricity from mouth mining generator will be used to run the new conveyor and mining operation, which is expected to save operating expenses.Moreover, the electricity from the company will fill the need of surrounding people in Tabalong Municipality and Batangan in South Borneo.The operation of mouth mine generator will be handled by Adaro Energys subsidiary, PT Makmur Sejahtera Wisesa, using about 300,000 tons of coal annually. (t04)The project of PLTU in Pemalang, Central Java, will require US$3.5 billion, a third of which will be provided Adaro. The project is handled by consortium of three companies. So a third of the fund will come from Adaro.Cooperating with Adaro, the other members of the consortium are J-Power from Japan and Itochu Corporation. The total needed coal for the power plant is about 4.5 million ton to 6 million ton annually. (T04/NOM)
