Citilink obtains 25 new aircrafts

JAKARTA: Citilink obtained 25 new narrow-body aircrafts from the IPO of Garudan Indonesia.President Director of Garuda Emirsyah Satar said that the company is committed to develop the strategic business unit of Citilink, following the commitment to focus on efficient flight market segment.As he said, Citilink was dedicated to be a low cost carrier (LCC) which aimed at obtaining the market share of plane passengers, different from Garuda which prioritizes the profitability.Citilink is dedicated for efficient passenger segment, while Garuda has full service, he said, last week.The business model which is developed by Garuda is similar to Qantass strategy in doing a penetration to the market. Australia-based airline, Qantas also has low cost carrier named Jetstar Airways.Strategic and Information Technology Director of Garuda Elisa Lumbantoruan said the company will order new aircrafts for Citilink this year.The choice is set between the two major brands, Boeing 737-800 and Airbus 320. The configuration of passenger seats is about 180 seats, while Garuda has 168 seats, he said.He also said that if the order is accomplished in 2011 then the new aircrafts will be sent in 2014 or 2015.Therefore, in this year we will rent aircrafts from the lessor since the penetration of Citilink in LCC market is considered urgent. Currently, Citilink has operated 5 units of classic series Boeing 737, he said. (wiw/t03)
