JAKARTA: Malaysias Kopitiam coffee shop, Oldtown White Coffee, taps Indonesian market as it targets to establish 8-12 outlets per year.In our expansion plan in 2011, we will open at least 6 outlets in Jakarta, Bogor, Tangerang and Depok areaa, yet, we will open at least 8-12 outlets per year. Our focus in the first three years is mainly in Java and Bali, said Alamsjah, President Director of PT Oldtown Indonesia (OTI), the master license holder of OWC in Indonesia while contacted by Bisnis today.Alamsjah is confident to open more than 200 outlets in major cities in Indonesia before 2015 or less than five years after its first launch.Alamsjah is also optimistic with opportunities Indonesia as he perceived the Indonesian market having similar characteristics with the Malaysians. Indonesia happens to be a potential market since it has high number of population and numerous young people once living abroad. According to Alamsjah, OWC offers some excellent qualities that any other competitors do not have, making the expansion target somewhat achievable. The coffee shop presents some products including white coffee, tarik tea along with various cuisine delights for breakfast, lunch and dinner.Beside its competitive price, OWC also provides wide-ranging alternatives of the authentic and high quality kopitiam served in comfortable place. Certainly, we have no reason to become pessimistic. Not to mention, our broad marketing target, from children to senior citizens, can hang out at Old Town, he affirmed. In the meantime, Lee Siew Heng, Managing Director of OWC Malaysia, said that Indonesia is a promising market for OWCs expansion, thus the company chooses Indonesia as the second international market after Singapore.OTI is a joint venture company between a food and beverages Oldtown company, Kopitiam Asia Pacific SDN BHD and a local partner, which it declined to mention.
